This latest article, Huckabee's Women's Rights Record Faces Scrutiny is an attack on Mike Huckabee because he supports the Southern Baptist statement of faith. Be assured, this is not an attack on just Mike Huckabee, but all Southern Baptists, and further, anyone who accepts the Bible as the literal Word of God. Basically, the tone of this article says that this quote in the Baptist Faith and Message - "A wife is to submit graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ," is a violation of women's rights, so Mike's stance on women's rights should be subject to "increased scrutiny". Where do we live, Saudi Arabia? Do Baptist people really treat there wives so poorly that we shouldn't be allowed to serve in office?
Make no mistake, what this article is really about is: is someone who actually believes the Bible and tries to live by what it says fit to serve in public office? My response is - that is my primary qualification to serve. I think Tony Perkins called it right, a reverse religious litmus test is being applied:
If you believe the Bible, you know that persecution of Christians will get increasingly worse until our Savior, Jesus, returns to take us away. But because we know persecution will get worse, it doesn't mean we have to lay down and take it, or enable it by our inaction. We are called to live out our faith daily, in our prayer closets AND in the public arena. Electing Mike Huckabee President of the United States will not stop the quickening slide down this secular hill, but by voting with our faith for every senator, every congressman, every mayor, governor, and garbage collector, we can surely make a difference, slow the slide, and leave our children a country of freedom.Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council (FRC) in Washington, DC, says Huckabee is being subjected to the same reverse religious litmus test that was applied during judicial confirmation hearings between 2003 and 2005.
"Senator Charles Schumer of New York said that he was opposed to some of these nominees of the president because of their 'deeply held personal beliefs' and those beliefs coming from their faith -- in particular, regarding abortion and seeing it as wrong," Perkins points out. "So we see a reverse religious test being applied [saying essentially] that anyone who has a vibrant Christian faith that impacts their life will have to choose between that faith and serving in public office -- and that, simply, is wrong." Please take the time to find a candidate you can vote for. Please vote. Every vote counts. Ask Al Gore. Seriously though, take a look at Mike Huckabee. You just might find a candidate worth voting for.
